Grateful for education

This week I'm grateful for the opportunity to continue my education. I finished up my student teaching last Friday, and I've been working on finishing up all the assignments that go along with that. That also means that I get to start working more hardcore and seriously on my masters thesis, which in a way, I'm grateful for as well. I'm grateful that God gave me this great mind and that I'm actually using it. And I'm super grateful that I get to take off with some good friends and just relax next week. :)

Dumb things I've said recently...

Things I've said while teaching that should have never come out of my mouth....

---------------------------------

Student: "I get around"
Kate: "yeah you do"

---------------------------------

Kate: "I like white more" (talking about text, but worried about sounding racist)
Kate: "I mean, what I really like is white on black"

---------------------------------

Student wearing Johnsonville Sausage t-shirt that says "all we do is sausage"
Kate: "really, is all you do sausage?"

---------------------------------

Because I'm just that awesome. And I'll keep sharing more as they come up... because misery loves company.

Student Teaching

Well, it's really more of just observing. But it's been fairly entertaining. At least it feels good to know that I really am progressing toward a goal. Nothing too exciting this week... although, my host teacher did introduce me as his "teacher wannabee." Good times.

lazy

I'm sure there's at least three or so people out there that are wondering how school is going, so here's the lowdown...
The first semester of my masters in teaching is going fairly well. I've finished one class, schools and society, and now I'm working on Human Development. Sounds thrilling, huh? Yup, it's about as thrilling as it sounds. So rather than actually doing school work, I'm writing about it. I'm not really sure how that works, but it's what I do. I've been subbing at the school a ton lately... today is the first weekday that I have been in Haines and not been working at the school since the first of the year. So I feel like all I've been doing lately is working and studying, but I guess that's not such a bad thing in small town Alaska, as the crazy wind is in the air and some people seem to seek drama like a wolf with a knife soaked in blood (even if it never really did happen). So I'll immerse myself in school and some working and movies sometimes.

for the sake of posting

Life has been standard still. I went to Whitehorse this weekend, and the most exciting part of that was going to Tim Hortons, A&W, and Boston Pizza. School is going well. I finish Econ and am now working on Behavioral Science. Not the most thrilling thing, but it's all good. I'm going to Anchorage on Wednesday with a bunch of kids, so I'm super stoked about that!

back to the grind

Things have been pretty much back to normal for the past week or so...
I finished my first class for school, which fells amazing. It still weirds me out a little that I am back in school.
I started a Bible Study for kids in their 20s in Haines. I'm pretty sure it shouldn't have taken a relative outsider to get this started, but maybe either that means that I really am part of the community now or at the very least that it's good that I'm here.
I gave the children's message at church yesterday. I went up there with a remote, cell phone, cd and bible, and proceeded to hit them all with a hammer, trying to show that only God's word is indestructible.
I picked up a few hours at Mountain Market, which means that I legitimately worked 40 hours this week in addition to school stuff.
And last, but by no means least, I didn't put my life in danger. Yay!

Ahh, Sunday

I got up in time for church this morning, biked over there, did the worship/fellowship thing for a couple hours, then headed to the library to work on a couple papers. I was there for maybe an hour when I got a phone call along the lines of, "hey, you wanna come on a boat ride and go rock climbing with us?" Uh, only always.
So I ended up not finishing that paper this afternoon, which is why I'm on my computer now. And clearly, still not working on that paper...

Stranger things have happened...

Today I started school again. I'm gonna be a teacher. That's the plan anyway. But who woulda thunk that I would go back to school...
